Body Building - Part One

An exploration of the human body and its relationship with space.

brief

Critically explore the human body and its relationship with the spaces and environments around us. Using small weekly tasks I explored how we occupy spaces in a physical, emotional and kinetic way.

adorn

Wear, Perch, Balance, Rest, Pattern, Shape, Form, Emphasis, Structure, Outline, Mould, Touch, Cover, Fit, Skin

Designed to restrict the movement of the hand this piece has a funnel down the centre to hold the hand in place.

The large frame restricts movement by holding the hand at an awkward and uncomfortable angle.

Wires on the exterior create a decorative pattern which creates a geometric aesthetic similar to that seen in the windows of St Enoche's shopping centre in Glasgow.

build

Construct, Slice, Slide, Scale, Balance, Sit, Rest, Abstract, Twist, Rotate, Shape, Joint, Detail, Connect, Intersect, Form, 3D

Using my life drawing as a reference point I explored how I might abstract the human form and simplify the shapes/form created.

By using slits to construct my model I was able to create a sense of mobility and realism that gave this abstract model a unique and quirky personality.
